The choice on the market is huge. And so are the price differences.
So what do I really need?
Airbrush compressors at Theatermakeup.de
A collection of information for airbrush beginners
First, consider A) time and B) air volume.
A) How long do I want to work with the airbrush compressor at a stretch and how often?
Hobby airbrushers as well as airbrush professionals who want to operate an airbrush only once a month for 10min have similar requirements.
Hobby airbrushers and airbrush professionals, who use an airbrush almost daily and for more than 30 minutes, are probably also not very different from each other.
B) How much air does my gun need? How much pressure and what quantity?
In order not to confuse you with too much technical confusion, I'll limit myself to the most essential.
Large guns with large nozzles use more air than airbrushes with small nozzles.
So for a make up with a small gun a small compressor is sufficient. If I want to spray with two guns at the same time, or when body painting with a large gun priming, I need a lot of air.
Another important principle: If I occasionally need some air, I can't go wrong with an inexpensive entry-level model.
As a serious hobby airbrusher, I need a reliable device for continuous use, just like the professional.
Hobby units only last a small fraction of the lifetime compared to a professional unit. Often hobby units need to allow for cool down periods of 30min or more.
The following are some exemplary combinations
A question we like to ask when talking to customers: Do you want to drive your airbrush compressor to a job in the desert with a clear conscience? If no, something inexpensive is sufficient. If yes, you should also invest accordingly.

Compressor TC-2000
All airbrushes with nozzles 0.15 - 0.5mm in Continuous operation possible
If it is not about the finest details, you can also work with two 0.4mm Airbruhes simultaneously. However, the air supply is not provided constantly.
Airbrushes with larger nozzles should then rather be supplied with a larger compressor.
Compressor AC-500
All airbrushes with nozzles 0.15 - 0.8 mm in continuous operation possible.
Two 0.4mm airbrushes at the same time are also possible in continuous operation.
Airbrushes above 0.5mm nozzles consume the air supply from the tank and depending on the working method, up to 1.2mm nozzles can be used.
However, this depends on the working method. Painting is possible, but permanent painting is not. Here, the air valve of the gun remains open too long and consumes the tank contents faster than the compressor can supply.
The recommendation is then clearly a larger compressor.
